Oh amazon reviewers…This is actually a comment to one of the reviews for Inglourious Basterds:
Liked your assessment.Whoa. Her profile says “Retired high school English teacher”. Guess we know why kids have no idea how to fucking read or write anymore! What in the complete fucking fuck. Her comment was physically painful to read. I just want to red-pen the living shit out of the whole thing.
I’m a 64 year-old female English/film study and media teacher, retired.
Except for TRUE ROMANCE, I’ve never seen a Tarentino movie. Not a fan. So I’m hardly the demographic the filmmaker’s were trying to attract. grins.
Not a huge fan or “blood spatter” violence, either.
However, I bought ID blu-ray because the critics lauded it, Brad Pitt was in it (I knew the role was small), and it was (supposedly) a revenge on the Nazis pic.
I thought it was STUNNING. The first 20 minutes alone produced so much tension that I almost had “heart failure.” (I did pause it a couple times just so I could breathe. grins.)
And I found the construction easy to follow. Drew me in. Kept me riveted.
Must admit I did squint my eyes a little during the “scalping” scenes. LOL!.
As far as the subtitles? I use close-captioning ALL the time. No, I don’t have a hearing problem. I just like to hear every single word in a movie. So the subtitles didn’t bother me at all. Also improves reading speed, people. grins.
And I, too, do NOT see this film as “war porn” at all. It does NOT diminish US veterans in any way. It’s a FANTASY, for gawd’s sake.
Some people need to UNCLENCH. grins.
